How many first aiders should you have?

 

Your “Checklist for the Assessment of First Aid Needs” should identify your requirements.
Recommendations in the Regulations are:

  1. Where timely and convenient access to appropriate medical or ambulance services  are  restricted due to distance or remote location;
    at least TWO First Aiders up to 10 employees
    with an additional first aider for each additional 10 employees.
  2. In shops and offices;
    at least TWO First Aiders up to 50 employees

    with an additional first aider for each additional 50 employees.
               
  3. In all other places;at least TWO First Aiders up to 25 employees
    with an additional first aider for each additional 25 employees.

 

“Arrangements shall be made to ensure that first aid services are available to cover all hours of operation - in every place of work and while work is in progress”.

 

 

 

How long is my  Workplace First Aid Certificate valid for?

All Workplace First Aid certificates that have been issued following the attendance of a 2 Day Workplace First Aid Course are valid for 2 years from the date of the course attended.  The certificate expires every 2 years and the individual is required to attend a Workplace Refresher Course in order to keep the certificate current.

 

 

 

When do I have to renew my Workplace First Aid certificate?

All Workplace First Aid Certificates are issued with an expiry date.  The individual must attend a 1 Day Workplace Refresher Course prior to the expiry in order to keep their certification current.

 

 

 

What happens if I let me Workplace First Aid Certificate expire?

If the individual does not attend a Workplace First Aid Refresher Course before their certificate expires, they will be required to attend a 2 Day Workplace First Aid Course again.  There are no exceptions.

 

 

If I trained with another first aid provider, can I attend an A1 First Aid Refresher Course?

Yes.  Proof of attendance at an alternative providers course is necessary, prior to a booking being accepted by A1 First Aid.

 

 

First Aid Checklist:

 

The First Aid Regulations 2000 state:
 “Every employer shall maintain a checklist for THE ASSESSMENT OF FIRST AID NEEDS”.

The checklist will contain:

  • The name of the person in charge of First Aid arrangements
  • The name of staff who hold a current First Aid Certificate
  • The Expiry Date of First Aid Certificates
  • The provision, location, specification and audit of first aid kits in their workplace

The Checklist “shall be reviewed on a regular basis” and available for an D.O.L. Inspector.
